Research interests include political violence (international and domestic), international migration/refugees, and the political effects of natural resource scarcity.  He is the author of Rebels Without Borders: Transnational Insurgencies in World Politics (Cornell University Press, 2009) and has published in journals such as the American Journal of Political Science, the Journal of Politics, International Organization, International Studies Quarterly, and World Politics.
